Rabotnik is a pioneering collective of musicians guided by electronic experimentation and led by the guitar, synths, keyboard and sampling skills of founding members Eduardo Manso and Estevãvo Casé; both from Far Out Recordings genre defying group Binario. Formed in 2004 Rabotnik added Bruno di Lullo on electric bass and Rafael Rocha on drums to complete the quartet. Having developed many original sound tracks for cinema, TV and a unique live concert full of stunning light shows, cinematic references and visual interventions, Rabotinik are both visually and aurally immense.
Rabotnik recorded their self-titled album on Bolacha Discos label; however ‘Lounge Ass’ for Far Out Recordings provided their edgiest and most complete work.
‘Lounge Ass’ brought ten tracks of warped beauty providing the ultimate soundtrack for underground clubs and lounges from Rio to London. The electro spawn of Binario took you on an epic journey full of supernatural twists and atmospheric shifts which, much like the stunning eye trick artwork has your head spinning to a climax; the album pushed the boundaries of conventional Brazilian music. The first track ‘Contragotas’ is a cinematic piece that twists into the addictive mind-bending electro mash up of Binario’s ‘DPP.’ ‘Las Vegas’ and title track ‘Lounge Ass’ were the album’s other big hitting tunes. The comparisons to Boards of Canada and legendary electronic group Autechre are inescapable. Rabotnik’s music, like Autechre, has a strong focus on complex rhythm, driving percussion, meticulous sequencing and electro minimalism. With Zappa, Beefheart and Robert Wyatt influencing Rabotnik hearts ‘Lounge Ass’ has a warmth and continuity that often escapes electronic albums. The CD is available as a full digital CD.
