Vertente duo, Davide Giovannini and Neil Angilley, were formally members of Latin super-band Negrocan and are also the composers of Latin house anthem ‘Cada Vez.’

Having remixed the likes of Blaze, Victor Davies, Roland Clark, Bah Samba and Tony Allen and having released over twenty 12”s on their own rainy city imprint Rainy City Music should need no introduction to lovers of club heavy Latin music. Seasoned club promoters in their home city Manchester, Rainy City show their knowledge of what moves the dance-floor.

Vertente’s first Far Out release ‘Chuva’, was our biggest 12” release of 2004. Regarded as a true crossover Brazilian classic, it was relentlessly hammered by DJs such as Louie Vega, Jazzanova and Mr Scruff all raving about Seiji’s (Bugz in the Attic) funky and housed-up remix.

Their second release on Far Out Recordings was ‘Tanto Tempo.’ With 3 versions of the track on the EP there was a mix for everyone. The original mix appealed to Brazil and Nu-Jazz fans as well as clubbier DJs with its crisp, samba swing, catchy handclaps, intricate snare patterns and echoing horns. The unplugged version was a pure samba where the vocals really came to the fore with the mix. The vocal was sampled and dubbed up with the bassline tweaked to create a house bomb. It’s easy to see why their mixes have been championed by the likes of Kenny Dope, Jazzanova, DJ Spinna & Gilles Peterson, Carl Craig and Joe Claussell as well as many others.
