Remix veterans and comp winners supply a 4 –track barrage of Brazilian beats

Zeep Dreams finally sees the light with a massive 12” and download release featuring heavyweight and veterans on the scene Da Lata (Patrick Forge & Chris Franck) and fronaught (Bugz in the Attic) punching a string of right handers and basslines to boot. Underdogs and remix competition winners, John Johnson and DJ LK respond to the challenge with some deft footwork and some surprise dance-floor sonics keeping a truly competitive edge to proceedings.

In September 2007, Radio Magnetic (www.radiomagnetic.com) hooked up with Far Out Recordings and the fight was set – ‘Zeep Dreams’ parts were made available through their website to download and Benji B (BBC 1XTRA) was to be the fight adjudicator.

The Ipanemas 'The Call of the Gods' out April 2008

The Ipanemas fifth album ‘Call of the Gods’ is a gorgeous slice of Brazilian vintage magic and clearly invokes the spirit of their 1962 debut ‘Os Ipanemas'. Back then they forged their own unique sound by infusing bossa nova with African traditions, jazz instrumentation and the lyrical themes of Samba-Canção [sung samba].

‘Call of the Gods’ exquisitely captures their self styled ‘afro-bossa’ sound of the 1960s, conjuring up that golden age Rio de Janeiro feel. The Ipanemas are a direct link to the old samba roots of the street bars in bohemian Lapa, the 1950s Copacabana jazz joints, and the emerging bossa wave – Wilson and Neco come from the source and made a sound all their own. Crucially, the album is driven throughout by the deep spiritual kick of the Afro-Brazilian religion and music Candomble, whose Gods inspire the title and so much more - as Wilson says ‘Brazilian music is religion’. This album swings with grace and pure class, thanks to the rich experience only The Ipanemas can bring.

‘Viagem’ is a compilation of rare Brazilian bossa nova and hard edged samba jazz from Blue Note’s recording artist, Nicola Conte.

The first in a series of DJ compiled albums for 2008 and coinciding with the celebration of 50 years of bossa nova (1958 – 2008), ‘Viagem’ pays testament to some of the seminal jazz inspired bossa nova and experimental music circa 1962 – 1970. Tracks from Bossa Jazz Trio, Tenorio Jr & Som 3 and many more. To coincide with this release there will also be a limited 7” available which features legendary Brazilian pianist Tenorio Jr’s pacey, two minute piano laden anthem ‘Nebulosa’.
