A feminist icon in Brazil for pioneering the first person feminine voice in song, as a teenager, Joyce had already been dubbed “one of the greatest singers” by the undisputed king of Brazilian music, Antonio Carlos Jobim. Joyce’s guitar playing is phenomenal too (and hugely underrated as far as we’re concerned). She has written songs recorded by a host of other greats – Elis Regina, Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo and Elizeth Cardoso, racking up over 400 written pieces.
