French/Brazilian pianist and composer Philippe Baden Powell, son of fabled MPB legend Baden Powell de Aquino, is reinventing Brazilian jazz in the lineage of his father’s generation. We're extremely excited to announce that Philippe has just signed to Far Out, with his brand new album Notes Over Poetry coming this spring.
Philippe's career sparked at the age of eleven when he joined his father on stage for the first time, subsequently leading to international tours and his first professional recording, Baden Powell & Filhos in 1995. After Studying at the Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris, Philippe moved to Rio De Janeiro and worked with some of Brazil's most iconic musicians including Seu Jorge, Marcelo D2, Maria Bethânia, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Roberto Menescal, Carlos Malta and Victor Biglione. Since returning to Paris in 2005 Philippe has collaborated with a wide range of other forward thinking jazz musicians of his own generation, including pianist Alexandre Saada, Argentine singer and guitarist Cecilia Zabala, and Brazilian trumpet player Rubinho Antunes.
