Azymuth | Fênix (Ron Trent Remix)

Rivalling their legendary output from the ‘70s onwards, Brazilian jazz-funk pioneers Azymuth’s latest album Fênix saw the band on top form, with their trademark samba doido (crazy samba) sounding as slick as ever. Since then, we've commissioned a special one-off remix for the project, from Chicago house legend Ron Trent, who has long cited Azymuth as musical heroes and one of his biggest influences. With a toughened groove and gorgeous swirls of synth and pad embellishments, Ron’s remix takes Azymuth’s futurist-disco even deeper... Out 16th June. Azymuth | Dear Limmertz / Maracana 12" Reissue

Azymuth | Dear Limmertz / Maracana 12" Reissue

Following the recent release of Azymuth’s new album Fênix, we're proud to announce a 12” reissue of two of the Brazilian mavericks’ heaviest dance cuts, remastered from the original Outubro tapes. Next to their groundbreaking disco hit ‘Jazz Carnival’, it’s one of the heftiest of Azymuth’s dense and still growing catalogue of floor fillers, along with being one of the trio’s most recognized tunes. The flip is home to the equally club ready ‘Maracana’, another super-heavy jazz-funk belter encompassing...

Ivan 'Mamao' Conti | Tenderlonious, IG Culture, Reginald Omas Mamode IV & Jeen Bassa remixes

Ivan ‘Mamao’ Conti is one of the greatest drummers on earth. A true rhythmic innovator, he is Brazil’s answer to Tony Allen, Steve Gadd, and Bernard Purdie (no small claim considering the country’s famed samba connection). Known by most as one third of Azymuth, his career spans far beyond with over half a century’s worth for recordings with the likes of Milton Nascimento, Eumir Deodato, Marcos Valle, Hyldon, Gal Costa and Jorge Ben. More recently Mamao recorded an album with hip-hop royalty Madlib under the shared moniker ‘Jackson Conti’. Now aged seventy, Mamao’s work ethic is as strong as ever....

Out Now | Azymuth - Fênix

For almost five decades Azymuth have been joining the dots between jazz-funk, samba, psychedelic electronics and cosmic dance music. Pioneering ambassadors for the music and culture of their nation, they are one of Brazil's most successful exports and with two founding members now in their seventies, they show absolutely no sign of slowing up.  Starting out in small bars in 1960s Rio as session musicians, the three founding members lived on the same bohemian block in Copacabana. After been blown away by their playing, keyboard player and pianist Jose Roberto Bertrami invited Ivan Conti and Alex Malheiros to record with him under the name...
