Aricia Mess - Super Legal [1997]
£3.00
1. Super Legal
2. Super Legal (Roc's Dub)
3. Super Legal (Flytronix Remix)
Yet more explorations into the world of latin nu-samba funk, recorded in Rio de Janeiro this is a single from the Friends From Rio 2 LP/CD (part of the Far Out series). Due to its success, Friends From Rio has been extended into a series concept. The idea is to take the best of the old and new, allowing Brazilian artists flexibility to create a new vibe with UK producers, whilst creating a space for the music of one of the world’s richest countries in musical terms. The results, we are sure, you will agree are splendid.
Aricia Mess comes from a village in the suburb of Rio called Catumbi. Apart from her singing attributes, she is known for her tap dancing talents. As soon as we heard her voice, we decided to leave her tap dancing to one side and to record a couple of new songs.
These new songs were composed with the help of Brazilian wizz kid Fabio Fonseca, something of a pop icon in Brazil who has produced hit albums for Marisa Monte and Ed Motta - two huge stars in back Brazilian. Fabio, a trainspotter when it comes to vintage keyboards, recorded this track on his 1963 Hammond B3 organ with lesley. Back in the UK Far Out in-house producer Roc Hunter programmed the beats finishing off the Rio-London which has come to epitomise Far Out. Add to this the production talents of Joe Davis, stir it up and you get this super-cool track, perfect to see the summer out.
If this isn’t good enough Moving Shadow’s Flytronix has contributed a mix, breaking it up ruff neck style. A perfect marriage. Whatever your flavour this Nu-samba funk jam is sure to cross over with all - a taste of some great releases up and coming on Far Out Recordings.
