Far Out’s label innovators ‘Azymuth’ take the helm with this 7”, a beautiful rendition of the classic ‘Morning’ separated by the flip into two parts.

The original version from 1974 was taken from their self-titled debut long-player and subsequently licensed for the seminal Soul Jazz comp ‘London Jazz Classics’ and lent itself as a classic in the UK jazz/soul scene. This version takes the roots of the compostion and pushes the groove to new levels.

Joe fills us in: ‘I always loved this tune by Azymuth – it’s one of my favourites and I knew one day I would have to record a version for Far Out. The drums from Ivan Conti sound like the fattest breaks you have ever heard, Alex’s bass licks are fresh and Bertrami’s harmonies are simply beautiful. The session also featured Alex Clue (“he was on holiday in Rio so we had to get him in the studio” – Joe Davis) of ‘Custom Blue’ on guitar and Robertinho Silva on percussion. The session was amazing, recorded in true Azymuth ‘live and electric’, fashion. Both tracks mixed down by man of the moment Dave Brinkworth (producer with Harmonic 33/Trouble Man).”

Joe explains the vibe behind the 7” series: “As a record collector I’ve always been a fan of 7”s and this series is a chance for us to experiment a bit more, work with different people and do different things that you often can’t do with albums.”

The 7”s come with the heavyweight packaging you would expect from Far Out. Long term Far Out designer Swifty created the design and type that accompanies Italian artist Mat’s sketches of the artists for each sleeve. Each release in the series will have its own colour scheme and is packed into a plastic sleeve.
